As far back as I can remember electronic music has always been in my life, starting with jean m jarre whose early synthesized works really captivated me. From there I also found a love for early electro and Detroit techno and from there acid when it exploded around the country…being far too young to go to any events I would collate the best tracks from early house albums onto tapes ,making my own compilations so to speak.
When rave evolved out of acid I was blown away, and with this saw the explosion of rave tapes as well, which I would collect from where ever I could ,swapping tapes with mates from school to copy.
By 1994 I got my first pair of decks, and began to collect vinyl…starting with Jungle & Hardcore then over the next few years more trance orientated tracks.
By 1995 I was really getting more and more into Gabba , especially the technodrome packs, collecting them all until 1999. Hardcore wise I was really into Force & styles,RSR,Vibes,Hixxy and Seduction…attending the bigger raves Id find myself darting back and forth between the techno room and main arena so as to not miss the above sets.
Around the mid 90’s also , I was introduced to Paul Oakenfolds “Goa mix” , I thought this was awesome and still love it to this day, Reactivate 10 cemented my love for the deeper sound of trance so started buying and mixing that also. Jon Digweed & Sasha were another big influence on my taste in music, the flow of the sets and the accuracy of the mixes are immense .
By 1999 Hardcore seemed to be getting a little boring so began to take notice of hardhouse, with the old skool riffs I had missed so much, but this too began to bore me after a couple of years , and around that time hardcore seemed to be getting right back on track….re-inventing itself, with releases like Scott browns “Elysium” , Hixxy & UFO’s “Castles” and Styles & Breeze’s “Future set” I was hooked straight back in and felt the passion for the music I had so wanted to feel again.
Now in 2009…artists such a Darwin,CLSM,Nu foundation are making some awesome music!
I've slowly found myself getting more and more into the progressive trance sound again, 130bpm very chilled out bits, and also Hard dance…theres so much diversity in this scene which is what I try and reflect in the “Stimulate” mixes.
